 Jean Paul Clarke (1913 - 2004) was born in Paris.
 He studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Paris and of Fine Arts in the workshops of André Devambez and Charles Guérin) between 1937 and 1939.
 Prisoner in Germany during the war, during his detention, he drew numerous portraits of his fellow prisoners in ink and pen with white gouache highlights. Subsequently, he focused on the landscapes of Seine et Marne but also those of Ouessant during his travels in Brittany.
 He is part of a small artist colony based in Essômes-sur-Marne.
